Look Before You Leap!

Be Careful! Many “wonder treatments” actually begin with a grain of truth. Very often they will accurately explain the reasons for hair loss. This gets your trust - causing you to drop your guard.

Unfortunately, hair loss scams and rip-offs are everywhere. The people promoting these swindles use the most alluring, promising statements imaginable. They want you to think their products can help restore thinning hair, slow hair loss or even grow hair from dead follicles! But all they want is your hard-earned money. Hair loss scams are seen on TV, heard on the radio and appear in all sorts of magazines promotions worldwide.

There’s another method to be cautious about: Hormone inhibitors. Manipulating hormone production can have adverse effects – and perhaps even cause yet unknown problems. Even when the preparations say they are “site specific” don’t believe it. Once the medications get into your system – they will circulate through the entire body!

Miracle cures tend to disappear over time only to pop up later with new names and fancier packaging. More will come - and go - and there is no real or effective way to stop them. The media isn't legally responsible and most of them simply don't care what they advertise. As long as it’s legal and profitable – they will promote it.

This is the classic case of “caveat emptor” – let the buyer beware. The more knowledgeable you are about hair loss, the less likely you will be cheated or conned.

The hair loss & beauty industry is so unregulated, it’s frightening what people actually claim, or worse, what they will guarantee. Special Note: "Hair Bulb Analysis Tests

We get a lot of email and letters from people asking us about the infamous "Hair Bulb Analysis Test” used by some dermatologists and a few Trichologists. A recent study conclusively showed Hair Bulb Analysis Tests were frauds.

This test claims to determine whether or not a person is losing hair due to the effects of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), a naturally occurring hormone.

The process is very basic - it looks for signs of hair follicle shrinkage due to hormonal or autoimmune activities.

The results of this test reportedly determine if you’re experiencing male/female pattern baldness or natural /stress related loss.

In clinical studies, researchers at the department of Health in Oakland , California sent healthy hair samples to six laboratories promoting diagnostic mineral hair analysis and evaluations. The findings from these tested samples varied considerably from lab to lab. These laboratories often gave conflicting dietary and nutritional recommendations to “combat” this problem.

The Conclusion: Hair Bulb tests alone can’t diagnose hair loss. Originally, Hair Bulb examinations were used to test water quality and other toxic hazards in a patient's environment.

Many similar treatments are being offered across the Internet claiming to be able to identify problems with the health of a hair follicle based on "nutrient deficiencies." Any reasonably informed hair loss sufferer already knows that the basis for hair loss has little to do with nutrients reaching the follicle alone.

Because of this misuse and misrepresentation, Oakland 's Dept. of Health is now exposing these services as worthless, inconsistent, and unethical.

Implants and Cloning

Do implants and cloning really work? A Dr. Jerry Cooley (MD) implanted cultured cells into his own scalp at fifteen different head areas. He only managed to promote a few follicles to grow.

Even when the same quantity of cells is injected, and even if the cells are from the same donor, the number of hair follicles produced in response to the procedure is extremely unreliable.

Another attempt by Aderans/Bosley produced just a few hairs in a single individual!

Research & development in ongoing in this field and may well produce breakthroughs in the future but right now this procedure must be viewed with a jaundiced eye and a grain of suspicion!
